Experimental Camera
Description
For this project, we duplicated our Experimental Camera sketches, revised the camera features as needed, then followed the F.R.I.E.S model from Consentful Tech Zine to add a consentful interface.
Design Process
My experimental camera project had a anti-surveillance premise to it so I wanted to continue with the idea of being able to have some level of anonymity in a circumstance that doesn't necessarily allow it. I more or less kept the same settings as my Experimental Camera but adjusted the offset from 16 to 8 so a subject isn't blocked out as much. I created a button to change the colors of the bars on the screen as well as a slider that controls the R and B values to let you control how clear your image is. In this scenario, a user is expected to have their webcam on at all times during a meeting/class. Depending on the day, how you're feeling, or how you're looking, a user may not want to have their webcam on. With this design, a user can technically still have their camera on but utilize two DOM elements to adjust the brightness and color to hide or unhide themselves.
Reflection
When it comes to the F.R.I.E.S. Model, I think this particular tool relates best to "Freely Given." A user is not give much leeway when it comes to turning their webcam on under my premise, but this tool allows a user to decide how much of themselves they want to show. The tool is also "Reversible" as a user is allowed to adjust the settings as they please. Finally, I think this tool also relates to "Specific" as it allows a user to determine how much information, or features of themselves, they want to show while in a meeting or in class.
